Daily CHALLENGE & ACTiViTY Summary
Dog’s name: Moku
Date: Wednesday, October 7, 2015
Physical Fitness
Moku and I joined our friends Jackie and Lisa, and a big group of all our collective dogs (including Clancy), and walked 2.7 miles at Yokuts Park! Moku was thoroughly exhausted by the time we finished, but he kept up with the pack from start to finish! He swam when we got home as well.
Cognitive Fitness
When I left for the concert in Anaheim, I left Moku with a bowl of frozen “puzzle pieces”, if you will. The night before, I had put a small amount of kibble, as well as some chunks of strawberry and melon, into a bowl with water, and froze it. This was for the purpose of giving Moku something to focus on and work out with his problem solving skills…something to keep him busy for an hour or so at least…after I left the house.
Social Fitness
The pack walk is both a social and primal practice. While there was time for a bit of sniffing before we got moving, most of the communication between members of a moving group of dogs takes place…well, on the move. It took Moku a good deal of self-discipline not to greet and try to play with the other (9!) dogs, especially a fellow “chocolaty” puppy, named Hershey. Though because everyone was moving, it became easier to look ahead and stay on target – because all the dogs’ (and humans’) energy was diffused into fuel for our “migration”.
Emotional Fitness
I think it was a bit of a rocky road for Moku on this front yesterday. I may be projecting some, because I was a basket case about leaving him to go to a concert in Anaheim (for which I had double-booked myself). I arranged for my friend Andy to come over directly after work, to let Moku out to potty and give him his dinner. All of this went okay, except that Moku had peed in my room by the time Andy arrived a few hours later, (even though he had gone right before I left). And apparently he peed on the carpet in the living room later on in the evening, when his parents came to say goodbye and drop off the rest of his things (for his stay at my house this week and weekend). I think all of this had Moku Bear’s tummy a bit upset, as his stool was very loose (though it could also have been his anti-rash meds). But alas, he survived the day and he (and I both) are happy today that there are no big plans but to hang together.
Primal Fitness
The pack walk is both a social and primal practice (see above).
