Dog Training
TEACHiNG
If your goal is therapy or service dog certification, I require that dogs pass the *S.T.A.R. Puppy, Canine Good Citizen, and Community Canine tests via the AKC. Once all three tests are completed, we will determine your dog's aptitude for working status, and begin specialized skills training for service or therapy, if applicable. $425 per five-course session + AKC test.
* If your dog is over six months old when we begin working together, the S.T.A.R. Puppy is not necessary.
I. PUPPY FUNDAMENTALS
(for dogs 6 months or younger) Home preparation, potty & crate training, dealing with chewing, jumping, and mouthing; setting boundaries, basic commands using luring, managing your puppy's energy, leash manners; setting your puppy up for success/ Includes AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy test during fifth session
II. BASIC OBEDIENCE & MANNERS
Setting boundaries, creating a blanced lifestyle for maximum behavioral potential; Commands (with limited food reinforcement): Eye contact, Sit, Down, Stay, Come when called, Leave It, Wait, Go to Your Place, Touch, Here, Shake; able to greet people and other dogs without jumping on them; able to walk nicely on a loose leash/ Includes AKC Canine Good Citizen test during fifth session
III. ADVANCED OBEDIENCE & PUBLIC ACCESS
All basic obedience commands (without food reinforcement) and manners (listed above) practiced in different contexts -- outside the home, in pubic places including parks, with progressively more difficult levels of distance, duration and distraction/ Includes AKC Community Canine (advanced CGC) test during fifth session

Often, a dog's less-than-desirable behaviors -- such as excessive barking, chewing, jumping, not coming when called, lack of leash manners, going bananas when the doorbell rings, etc. -- are the result of miscommunications between you that have led to negative behavior patterns (on both your parts) over time. I will help you understand what your dog truly needs from you, and provide you with the tools to communicate with your dog clearly and effectively, thereby enhancing the bond between you, and setting yourself and your dog up for success in day to day life!

I offer Skype consultations:
$50 for the first 30 minutes, and $1 per minute for additional time (with a $50 minimum).
Sometimes, a 30-minute conversation is all it takes to shift your perspective in the right direction, and set you and your dog on the path to success!

I am a certified evaluator through the American Kennel Club, able to administer the S.T.A.R. Puppy, Canine Good Citizen, and Community Canine tests. Whether you are testing to graduate a training course, qualify for therapy or service dog status, or simply want to challenge your dog to earn the titles, I'm here to help you and your dog reach your goals!
